A competition organised by our farm shop team has found the Hampshire Barbecue Hero of 2021.
Simon Conder from Hamble was crowned Hampshire’s BBQ Hero after being nominated by his wife for his dedication to barbecuing all year round and his signature marinated chicken-skewers.
Recognised as a barbecue extraordinaire by his family, Simon grew up grilling on the beach in Borneo and now turns to the BBQ at any opportunity he can.
The Hampshire Hero won a deluxe Westlands Barbecue bundle worth £70 including a variety of locally-sourced produce such as; Suthwyk Ales gift pack, Stokes BBQ sauces, Westlands beef half pound burgers, a hand-made apron and the coveted Hampshire Barbecue Hero plaque.
Simon said: “I have always loved barbecuing, ever since I was a child. There is always an opportunity to fire up the barbie, even in the winter months. Once I actually cooked a Christmas dinner on a barbecue.
“It’s not just the cooking I like. I enjoy the social aspect of it too such as being with friends and family and just enjoying my time outdoors. My favourite thing to cook is definitely marinated chicken skewers.”
Farm shop owner Kayleigh Collett added: “We were delighted to present Simon with the prize. He clearly is quite a barbecue fanatic and it has definitely been given to the right person, we know he’ll make good use of his prizes. The Hampshire Hero competition was a success and it was lovely to see a diverse range of entries”.
